What's a Purple martin?
East of the Rocky Mountains, Purple Martins nest almost exclusively in human-supplied housing. They are dependent on us for their survival. They are one of America’s most well-loved songbirds for many reasons; their chattering song, aerial acrobatics, insect-eating habits and their tolerance of humans.
Purple Martins are an amazing bird that migrate thousands of miles to get from their non-breeding home down in Brazil back up to the east coast of the USA to breed every year! The Clermont Martin Watch team helps monitor two houses at the Clermont Waterfront Park and shares population data collected with the Purple Martin Conservation Association to help secure the future of this vulnerable species.
Whether you are a seasoned Purple Martin landlord or just starting out there’s always something new and exciting to learn about martins. (via purplemartin.org).
What we do
The Clermont Martin Watch is a group of conservationists and volunteers that work together to monitor can collect data for three houses on 5th and 7th street at the Clermont Waterfront Park. That data is then shared with the Purple Martin Conservation Association to help them make informed decisions on conservation efforts and stay up to date on migratory patterns and possible stressors to the species population as a whole. We're run entirely by volunteers and love getting the community involved, educating and connecting with anyone who'd like to learn about this amazing species. We hope to raise money for new houses for our astounding little fliers to make their nests safer-and a whole lot cozier-for their chicks in the future.Consider supporting us by going to our Ko-fi pages!
